Does Putting Ice in a Bong Work?

If you smoke out of a bong, chances are you chose it for the smoother smoking experience. However, this isn’t as smooth as it gets. You’ve likely heard of the practice of putting ice in a bong, but does it really work? Does putting ice in a bong actually make for a smoother experience?

Does putting ice in a bong work?

Yes, actually. Let’s take a closer look.

When you inhale smoke from a bong, it can be harsh on your throat and lungs. The smoke can be hot and uncomfortable, which can detract from the overall experience. Some people claim that adding ice to their bong can help cool down the smoke and make it smoother to inhale. And they’re not lying.

Think of it like another filter for the smoke, in addition to the water it’s already going through. When you add ice to your bong, it can lower the temperature of the smoke and make it less harsh. This can result in a smoother inhale and a more enjoyable experience.

The effectiveness of this method can vary depending on the type of bong you’re using. If your bong has a long neck or multiple percolators, adding ice may not make too much of a difference. Conversely, if you’re using a simple bong with a straight neck and no percolators, adding ice can significantly improve the smoking experience, especially if it’s a very small piece.

Keep in mind that adding ice to your bong can increase the chances of water splashing into your mouth. This isn’t dangerous, but it is gross. To avoid this, make sure you don’t overfill your bong with water and use ice cubes that are small enough to fit through the neck of your bong.

Should I put the ice in the bong water, or do I need a bong with an ice catcher?

Some bongs have indents in the neck portion, which is commonly called an “ice catcher.” If you place ice through the mouthpiece, it will land on the indents, preventing it from reaching the water. However, you can still add ice to a bong without ice catchers. It doesn’t make much of a difference putting the ice in the water versus above the ice catchers.
